Afghanistan's poppy harvest

Indeed Afghanistan's enormus Opium harvest is deeply concerning to the world. Imagine President Obama explaining to Interpol and the rest of the world why the CIA wants the poppy fields unmolested is a big problem for America.

It's the old Washington Two-Step. While American citizens are routinely harassed daily under the guise of America's War on Drugs, the CIA appears to be one of the major suppliers of ILLEGAL DRUGS around the world.

That certainly could be a problem if and when American citizens begin to realize that.

Under the horrific Republican administration of Bush-Cheney Opium production in Afghanistan increased 50 TIMES, making Afghanistan the world's largest Opium producing area in the world, ALL under the protection of America's CIA.

The hard sell however is the FACT that Opium and Heroin bring severe penalitys in all of the Muslim ruled nations in the Middle East, including Iran. That makes the US State Dept's mission to discredit the CIA's direct involvement in the illegal drug trade very difficult.

This problem,Campbell seems to be growing literally.
As I said in another post on your blog that we have to rethink strategy. Military might alone has not solved any problem anywhere if one goes down the road of history.
Withdraw troops that is the first order of business. The International community has then to mount a massive effort to rebuild, eradicate poverty & illiteracy in that part of the world. That being one of the most backward regions is a breeding ground for extremism. Educating people & providing the youth with means of earning livelihood should take priority, this is in every country's interest ,not just ours. As it is they have nothing but to cultivate poppy. We have to win that region & Middle East back from the extremists.
@A.Smith rightly says Americans are no longer welcome there & most other places. Well we better do something about that besides bombing them

As much of the world already realizes and Americans are slowly waking up to realize themselves is that the Karzai Clan in Afghanistan is hip deep in the middle of the huge Opium-Heroin drug exporting business across Afghanistan which was nearly entirely shut-down and missing when the Taliban had taken over Afghanistan some 8 years ago.

Muslim hard-liners severely resent the Middle East being flooded by the tidal wave of Heroin from Afghanistan and Ironically Russia is very loudly complaining of the same frustration themselves. In Russia alone, some 30,000 citizens are dieing each year directly from the tidal wave of cheap readily available Heroin flowing from nearby Afghanistan.

It certainly appears the CIA is directly involved in enabling this situation which greatly expanded the Opium fields some 500x under the horrific administration of Bush-Cheney.

Great report Mr. Lawrence ! That's why they call it CNN and not the Rolling Stone. Why can't they stop the dudes growing the poppy ? Wonder if that's on General Petraeus review sheet for reconsideration and is it ? They reported Petraeus having the flexibility to make changes that he thinks necessary. Is this an area of frustration that you think he's going to change ? Ask Joe Biden and he's currently in the area for the Fourth. What is Obama's policy ?

Miller High Life Beers ! Save your bottle caps for our troops ! Ticker Tape Parade... Thank-you McChrystal and God Bless our troops !
