Yes it is OK. As long as it is a calculated punishment which is to say that it's not doled out by an angry parent. The tone needs to be be nearly scientific. Child broke rule A. They knew what the penalty would be. So they get spanking B. Never horribly painful to the child just a swat on the butt to confirm the chain of command.

If you want to teach your child that violence and agression solve problems...and make one behave better...Spank away!

How barbaric? Hitting a child teaches them to be angry (because you hit them) and teaches them that you are out of control when that happens.

Yes God answers prayer everyday and nothing wrong with spanking as long as not done in anger and yu hold your child after tell them yu lov them and daddy loves them and brother and sister loves

Sen. Majority leader MItch McConnel's statement that the financial reform proposal would a big bank bailout is ridiculous on several accounts. First, MIT economist Simon Johnson writes Sen McConnel's" preferred approach is not to break up big banks; its to change nothing and simply promise to let them fail in the future. This proposal is dangerous, irresponsible and makes no sense. The bankruptcy process simply cannot handle the failure of large complex institutions without causing the kind of world- wide panic that followed the collapse of Lehman" and AIG...." Second Sen McConnel literally is following Republican pollster Frank Luntz strategy proposal to characterize the Democratic financial reform plan as a "Big Bank Bailout". This , of course , has become the Republican mantra in the Senate. Finally, Sen McConnel and Sen Kyle , as reported on Fox News, met last week with Hedge fund operators. If the report is accurate they asked for donations and ways to kill the Democratic proposal. CNN in a discussion of this vital legislation should be providing better analysis that goes way beyond what was aired Wednesday night. Mz Brown may have read something, perhaps the Repulican talking points while the gentleman from the WSJ was for someone reputed to have technical knowledge of the bill totally inadequate.

I know from experience that spanking does not work. As a child, I was spanked and the results were hateful, fearful and resentful feeltings towards my parents.

Why is it against the law to hit another adult, but not against the law to hit a child? If Roland Martin were at work and his boss came into his office and spanked him for a late report or an on-air goof up, Roland would probably file a police report. It's called assault and battery when an adult hits another adult, but it's called "disciplining your child" when it's an adult hitting a child. Why can't adults and parents realize this? It's sad.

Tim James, the buffoon who is running for governor in Alabama needs to remember that HE is speaking a foreign language! Afterall, I don't see him learning any of the languages of the American Indian, such as Cherkokee, Sioux or Crow! American Indians were physically and mentally persecuted for speaking the native language of America. Maybe Tim James needs to take some anthropology and American history classes!

Yes spank or paddle.
I am a college Professor and I support the Idea of paddling.
Some behaviors are non-negotiable. Action and consequences are what are being teaching. This should be a last resort but it needs to be an option. I see the result of non paddling everyday as a College instructor. You tie our hands and when they get to us they are adults with no concept of boundaries. Yes spank them when they are young and explain why this is occurring or wait and jail them as adults
There is a difference between spanking and beating most folk don’t know this however.
by the way I was spanked as a child and I am a 50 year old black man and I have never been jailed I understood bounderies.

I only spank my children when they did something which risked their lives and I would tell them exactly why they were being spanked. Any other situation I would TALK to my children about their behavior. It worked amazingly well for my kids, never once tried drugs or displayed disrespect towards me.
