By Gloria Borger, CNN Senior Political Analyst It’s a rare sight these days to see political polar opposites on the same side of a fight. But that’s what’s happening in California, as David Boies and Ted Olson team up to fight against Proposition 8—and for gay marriage. It’s a case they’re arguing in district court in San Francisco, but it’s likely to head to the Supreme Court one way or another.
Gloria Borger interviews Ted Olson and David Boies.
These men have both there before—on opposing sides. It was 2000, and Ted Olson represented George W. Bush and David Boies was Al Gore’s lawyer in the celebrated recount case that divided the nation. The men fought hard, and—as we all know—Olson won. It was a bitter fight in the country, but ironically, the case brought Olson and Boies together. Soon mutual respect grew into a real friendship that has grown over the past decade. And now they’re on the same side, and will head to the Supreme Court, together—which is where this case is likely to get resolved. March 18, 2010 Undecided on health carePosted: 01:42 PM ET
CAMPBELL BROWN, CNN ANCHOR: Joining me right now is Pennsylvania congressman, Jason Altmire, who is one of the Democrats still on the fence. Congressman, you're under a lot of pressure right now. President Obama himself, I know, has been lobbying you. What is he telling you? REP. JASON ALTMIRE (D), PENNSYLVANIA: He walks through in pretty precise detail some of the conversations we've had leading up to this point, because this is a continuing process of, in my opinion, trying to improve the bill. This is a better end product. And he points out that there's no income tax increase, there's no employer mandate. He believes the cost containment measures are better in this bill. I agree with most of that. I don't think this bill is where I'd like to see it and nobody agrees with all of it, but it's definitely a better product. BROWN: So - so has he convinced you yet? ALTMIRE: I'm in the process of talking with my constituents, as well. And I'm not going to cast a vote that my constituents aren't comfortable with. We've been getting thousands of calls to our office. So, in the end, it's going to be a combination of what my constituents want me to do, what my own judgment on the finished product is, which we haven't seen yet, and what the difference is between passing this bill, flawed as it may be, or doing nothing. Because if we do nothing, health care costs continue to go up. March 11, 2010 Suze Orman's economic outlookPosted: 03:21 PM ET

November 10, 2009 Martina Navratilova talks about Andre Agassi's meth usePosted: 09:31 PM ET
Martina Navratilova talks about Andre Agassi's meth use. Campbell: Joining me now to talk about the controversy, Martina Navratilova. Martina Navratilova: Put my foot in it again, didn't I? Campbell: What was it? Welcome to you, first of all. Navratilova: Thank you. Campbell: What was it that bothered you so much? Navratilova: Well, first of all, I want to say that I compared Andre to Roger Clemens, that they both lied about having taken the drugs. But now Andre has come clean. Roger still hasn't. And, of course, it is a big difference because Roger was using performance enhancing drugs and Andre was using a recreational drug which I don't think should be on the list anyway as a no-no. I did not at the time that he was depressed which is why he was taking crystal meth. I didn't know what crystal meth looked like. I know that labs blow up. I know that from "CSI." I didn't know what the drug was for. I didn't know he was depressed. I was never upset he took it but once he got caught, then - I wish he had more respect for the sport to own up to it. But perhaps because of who he is, he was afraid it would hurt the sport. He may have had that less reasons for coming clean at the time. |
